Joe Jackson’s niece Maggi Hall (1914-2007) never saw Joe Jackson play baseball. She simply knew him as “Uncle Joe.” Maggi’s childhood memories of her Aunt Kate and Uncle Joe offered rare insight into Joe Jackson the man.
Full of energy and great stories, Maggi was gracious enough to allow my cameraman and I into her home one frigid February afternoon in 2003. I spent several afternoons with her, rummaging through an old leather suitcase and a box filled with old photos, documents and newspaper clippings mostly related to Jackson. Only later would I learn from Mike Nola that some of the things Maggi was sharing–in particular the photos–were Jackson artifacts that had never before been seen by the public.
